WSGA Junior America’s Cup Team Selection Process

Representing the State of Wyoming in the Junior America’s Cup is a privilege and honor that comes with high expectations. Team members will be selected based on individual performance, attitude, and character. This process ensures that chosen players embody the values of sportsmanship, respect, and excellence.

Qualifications/Criteria for Boys & Girls Junior Americas Cup

  • Eligibility:
    • Players are eligible to participate in the BJAC/GJAC if they are 14 years of age, have not yet reached their 19th birthday by the final day of competition, and have not attended an institution of higher education.
    • Must be a member of the Wyoming Junior Club
  • Handicap Index:
    • Must maintain a handicap index of 5.0 or lower for BJAC & 18.0 or lower for GJAC at the time of selection.
  • Tournament Performance:
    • Highly recommended to play in the following Events:
      • Uswing Mojing Junior World Qualifier
      • WSGA Junior State Amateur (Champion receives automatic bid on JAC)
      • WSGA Junior Match Play (Boys Champion receives automatic bid on JAC)
      • WSGA State Amateur
      • WSGA Match Play 
    • Additional points awarded for strong performance in AJGA, USGA, or other regional junior tournaments.
    • Tournament strength determined by committee

Behavior and Sportsmanship

Representing the State of Wyoming in the Junior America’s Cup requires not only exceptional golfing ability but also a commitment to the highest standards of behavior and sportsmanship. Team members must exemplify:

1. Sportsmanship

  • Respect for Competitors: Demonstrating fairness, encouragement, and respect toward fellow players, regardless of circumstances.
  • Respect for Officials: Maintaining a cooperative and positive attitude toward tournament staff, referees, and volunteers.
  • Grace Under Pressure: Handling victories with humility and setbacks with composure, reflecting a mature and positive outlook.

2. Integrity

  • Rule Adherence: Strictly abiding by the rules of golf and reporting any rule infractions, even if it may result in a penalty.
  • Honesty: Upholding transparency in scoring, decisions, and actions on the course.
  • Accountability: Taking responsibility for one’s actions, both during play and in interactions off the course.

3. Off-Course Conduct

  • Representation: Acting as an ambassador for the State of Wyoming and the WSGA, reflecting the organization’s values.
  • Professionalism: Conducting oneself in a manner that upholds the prestige of the Junior America’s Cup, whether during travel, team events, or public appearances.
  • Team Collaboration: Supporting teammates, respecting coaches, and contributing to a positive team environment.

Assessment of Behavior and Sportsmanship

  • Observation:
    • Tournament officials, WSGA staff, and team coaches will monitor behavior during competitions and events.
  • Feedback:
    • Input will be sought from coaches, mentors, and club professionals to assess sportsmanship and integrity.
  • Past Conduct:
    • History of disciplinary actions or unsportsmanlike behavior may disqualify a candidate from selection.

Expectations Agreement

All selected players must sign a Code of Conduct Agreement committing to upholding the values of sportsmanship and integrity. Failure to meet these expectations may result in removal from the team.

  • Team Commitment:
    • Players must commit to selling 100 raffle tickets, traveling for the event, and participating fully as team representatives.
  • Team Selection:
    • The WSGA Junior America’s Cup Team Selection Process is based on individual performance, attitude, and character. Representing the State of Wyoming is a privilege and honor and should be respected as much. 
    • Both the Boys & Girls JAC Team for the State of Wyoming are determined by the selection committee 
    • This selection ensures that the emphasis on behavior and sportsmanship is integral to the selection process, aligning with the WSGA’s mission and the prestige of representing Wyoming.
    • Up to two players may be selected as wildcards based on outstanding potential, performance trends, or extenuating circumstances.
